Measure Twice – Measuring for a Patio Door

If you are ready for new patio doors, always measure twice. In this Mobile Minute we take a look at the patio door and the best practices for measuring when ordering a new door.

Now there’s two measurements that are crucial. First is the width. In order to measure for the width, you’re gonna take the tip of your tape measure and insert it all the way into the strike jam of the patio door frame itself.

Then you’re gonna drag your tape measure across and measure to the far side of the intermediate stop on this door. We’re coming up with 30 and one quarter inch. That is your width of your screen door. The second and most crucial measurement is the height. In order to measure for the height on a screen door, you’re gonna take the tip of your tape measure, insert it all the way into the top of the top runner, and drag your tape down to the top of the bottom runner.

In this case, we’re coming up with 77 and five eighths. That is the height of your screen door. In order to deduct properly for the screen door height, we’re gonna deduct one quarter inch, which brings the total height of the screen door to 77 and three eighths. That is how you measure for a sliding patio screen door.
